Nick’s Soma Buena Vista porteur
Soma Fabrications Buena Vista is surely our favorite frameset to build a top city bike. Design inspiration comes from the mixte frame design popularised in France during the 50s – its main feature being the split toptube. Soma makes these in Taiwan with Tange tubes throughout and exceptional attention to detail from the lugged joints to top quality paintjob.
This is Nick’s build from Yorkshire, UK. Nick is a big fun of Campagnolo so in order to run this bike in Campy we had to utilise the Centaur 11-30 cassette. We paired it with the Veloce triple long cage rear derailleur. Keeping it silver and wanting to keep few gears with wide range we chose the Velo Orange 42 teeth crankset with the Paul Comp chain keeper keeping the chain running in place.
For cockpit we used a combo of Nitto bars on Velo Orange +17 stem with Dia Compe brakes and shift lever. We also laced a wheelset of Ambrosio hubs on Mavic Elite rims with Panaracer Pasela 28s tyres. Other details include a Chris King headset, Brooks Swift saddle and the super clean IRD gear stops.
These bikes are great for those wanting to utilise the upright position. Nicks build is one of the best out there awaiting fenders, basket and some English weather.
Enjoy!
