Petros’ Mercian 853 Reynolds roadbike
A super rare opportunity to work on an authentic British frame such as Mercian. Mercian Cycles hailing from Derby, England started in 1946 and developed high-quality craftmanship during the 60s, 80s and 90s. They operated as a shopfront retailers and since 2018 they have been operating as framebuilder and paint/finishers.
Petros brought this frame into the shop for a build. He had it lying around for a good few years and the covid-19 lockdown made him want to ride again. This Mercian in particular is a Reynolds 853 with a randoneur geometry.
After a good session with Petros we decided to build it classic but not overly done with stereotypes.
We build this up with Campagnolo Centaur 11speed, a silver shiny classic groupset and used the new Zipp silver parts in handlebar and seatpost staying in oversize. Please check the wheelset using ceramic bearing hubs on H+Son TB14 rims and some made in Japan Panaracer rubber.
Its a great honour and joy to have this frame build up. A true stallion of GB craftmanship.
