Aggelos’ Soma ES brevet-machine

Soma, based out of San Francisco (manufacturing in Taiwan), is producing variations of the classic but contemporary randonneur bicycle like the Smoothie, ES (meaning Extra Smooth), San Marcos etc. The ES is featuring long reach brakes (59-79), oversize cockpit and extra long chainstays for added stability and comfort.

Aggelos was riding a Marin bike before and this is his first real road bike. He was introduced to all these magical Japanese parts at our shop and he agreed to indulge in some of them, making this build one of the best road bikes we build for a while.

First things first we decided to run the bike in silver and Campagnolo Veloce 2×10 is a great choice in terms of weight and functionality. We also decided to run a 26′ cockipit and Nitto is offering this monster of a handlebar: the M106 NAS, heat treated, short+shallow with flat surface right before the hoods. We paired it with Velo Orange 100m stem and VO Gran Cru sealed bearings headset. Another detail to watch is again the Velo Orange Gran Cru long reach brakeset (Prolly approved and everything), this is by far the greatest long reach calipers, their razor sharp stopping power and immediate engagement is the equal to disc brakes.

Wheelset wise, look out for Suzue’s high flange sealed bearings made-in-Japan hubset laced on Aggelos choice for rims the H+ Son Archetype (3X) rubbed in Continental GP4000 28s. The build is completed with Nitto’s S65 seatpost on a Brooks Swift saddle and All City Walner pedals.

This is a top notch randonneur bike with the right mixture of Italian, USA and Japanese rare blinky parts that you can only find in our shop.
